General Information on Guided Hunts

Our Rates (as shown below) include: Excellent accommodations (either in our Main Lodge or adjacent Log Home); all Meals - plus packed lunches; fruits; candies; treats; snacks and heavy Hors d'oeuvres. Our experienced Guides provide 4-wheel drive vehicle transportation to our Private Ranches or Permitted Hunt Areas. Our long standing policy is to Plan Your Hunt based on your physical capability; experience; and desires (if Legal & Safe). We offer hunts for 1 Hunter per Guide (1X1) and 2 Hunters per Guide (2X1). The Guide is dedicated to you or to your Group and remains with you; employing his knowledge and experience on these hunts to assist you in the Harvest of your Game Animal. The Guides are with you to aid in tracking and to do the full recovery of your harvested animal. Once recovered your Game is returned to the Ranch where we have a complete Game Processing Area including: electric winch; meat saws; double sinks w/hot water; plus Game Cooler/Locker that will accommodate over 20 animals.
On our Private Ranches we utilize a variety of Hunt Tactics and techniques based on our many years experience on the Ranches. One of the most popular and successful is the use of a variety of Hunt Stands, varying from Tri-Pods; Ladder Tree Stands; Ground Blinds, etc. In addition, when appropriate we employ the conventional Hunt Calls and Stalk!
Our Main Lodge provides a large Den; Dining Area; and Commercial Grade Kitchen. Meals are planned to meet your Hunt Schedule and Hors d'oeuvres await your return after the days hunt and prior to Dinner. ("Tall Tales" are told by ALL!!)
Private, fully equipped bedrooms are provided to you or to your Hunt Group. We have ample Bathrooms with showers and hot water. All of our Common Areas are Non-Smoking, Bedrooms by choice. However, smoking areas on Deck/Porches are provided.
spacerWe have Recreational Buildings with Lockers; Weapon Racks; and Change area for Outer Garments/Footwear.

NON-GUIDED HUNTS

spacerLone Cone Outfitters offers a Non-Guided Public Land Hunt for those Hunters who prefer to "Hunt on Their Own", but prefer to have excellent Lodging and Meals; where meals are served based on their Hunt Schedule; and they are operating from a Base Camp location that is convenient to hunting app. 300,000 acres of the Uncompahgre and San Juan National Forest and BLM Lands. We provide the same Lodging and Meals as our Guided Hunters receive (see info above). In addition, we assist in giving a complete Map Orientation of the various prime hunting areas; pointing out the Deficiencies that exist in most available Public Land maps in regard to Public/Private Land Boundaries; Un-Marked Legal Access Roads/Routes; and general Game concentration areas. In addition, we assist you in planning your daily Hunt, based on our extensive experience in the area; Daily scouting and other reports from Friends and Neighbors on Game locations. Let's Don't Overlook Archery!

Message to Ron Clements from Hunter Mike Lipinski

Ron,
Sorry I missed you when I checked out last week. I knew I had a long drive to Albuquerque and wanted to hit the road early Saturday morning. I also wanted thank you again for the outstanding experience with Lone Cone Outfitters on my recent archery hunt for deer and elk. I could not have asked for a better hunt. Everything from the lodge, your hospitality, and your great guides made this a first rate experience! Between Gary, Norris, and Ronnie you could not have a better set of guides. Their easy going manner combined with their knowledge of the animals in the hunt area make a great combination. There was not a single day that they did not put me or the other hunters in camp onto deer and elk.

I am not sure if I told you or not, but I was able to see almost 100 deer and elk while on the ground hunting (53 mule deer and 40 elk). Out of these, 78 animals were inside of 100 yards with almost half under 50 yards. You can not ask for much better on an archery hunt. There were 18 mule deer bucks and 6 bull elk included in these numbers. Simply an great hunt and a wonderful experience! I have attached a few photos of the mule deer I shot on the third morning. I am very pleased with this buck as my first muley and my first archery muley to boot. Please pass on my name to anyone as a reference. I am looking forward to the next opportunity to hunt with you and Lone Cone Outfitters in the future! Have a great day!

Mike Lipinski

Thanks Mike! It was great having you. It was also good to talk to you this past January and I am excited about you coming back with your wife Kathy. See you real soon! - Ron

Some of the Elk harvested in 2nd Rifle Season

Even "Ripley" will not believe! But, it is absolute Fact! Rudy had never killed a Big Game animal or shot a "Scoped Rifle". He came from Georgia with a borrowed rifle, made a 200 + yard shot and killed this 6X5 Bull with Guide Gary as his "Witness"!! Rifle 1

Jon Godfried (MI) with his 6X6 Bull. He "drew" a Cow Elk License and made that kill also!! A lot of excellent meat and very nice trophy to mount!

Rea Jones (PA) - First time to hunt Elk. Harvested this excellent 6X6 Bull. October 2nd Rifle Season

Rifle 1 - Jason Baker a Georgia EMT and also a Good Shot! Thanks for the service you provide to your community! Glad you got to join us for an Elk Hunt!

Rifle Season 3 - The weather turned HOT! - BUT, Bull Elk still got Shot!

Mr. Hugh - has harvested a bull each year with us! This one 20 minutes into legal shooting time - Day one - Rifle 2.
Rifle 3 - Eddie Rice from Crestview, FL with his Bully Boy! Notice he is wearing a "Shirt Only" in November! As the Ole Timers say "Don't like Colorado weather - wait 30 minutes - it'll change!"

Oops - Don't forget Archery Harvests
Picture in game cooler is not a good one - but Bull was a 340 class and Mulie Buck a 5X5.
Another Archery 6X6 Bull! Again, the photo is not impressive, but the "Mount" certainly will be!

Photo gives a good perspective of the size of a Mature Bull! Very Happy we could "Pack Out" via trailer and not on pack animals. Didn't get a final score, but it will be well over 350 B&C!
Another view outside of Lone Cone Outfitters Processing area!

Cow taken out of the same herd on one of our Private Ranches - Not small!!
Refrigerated Game Cooler/Locker is "full again"!!!

MULE DEER

The Mule Deer Herd in our Area is really "On The Come Back Trail"!!

All of Colorado went through a drop in the number of Mule Deer and the size of Bucks in the 1990's due to a combination of two major factors: Increase in Predators, particularly Coyotes, Mountain Lions and Bears; Over Hunting with unlimited licenses being sold. Colorado Wildlife Commission implemented the "Limited License Draw" several years ago which has provided for a Great Recovery in the Quantity and Quality of Mulie Bucks in the past several years! With the Draw, we had only a few Hunters that Drew a license and several that did put a Priority on Hunting Elk. We had several very large Bucks missed in Muzzleloader and Archery seasons. Pictured below and in the Mule Deer Gallery are Bucks taken in our area and by our Hunters in previous years.

Photo from one of out Hunting areas! An “Unmolested Herd”, content & feeding
to the naked eye about 50 are visible - Sit for awhile with binoculars! There
were over 100 head scattered through the Oak Brush and Aspen!

Another Elk Herd feeding in the Aspen
(quakies) - Bulls in the fore ground. About
30 visible to the eye, but again you only
see half or less at any given time.
