Travel Information to “Eagles’ Nest Ranch”

Air Travel
Closest best Airport - Montrose, Colorado (app. 75 miles).
and Durango, Colorado (app. 90 miles)

Many Air Travelers fly to a major hub; rent a vehicle and drive. This sometimes is cheaper than flying into Montrose. Albuquerque, NM offers good flight availability; lower prices on rental vehicles and is 295 miles from Ranch. Colorado Springs offers good flight availability and is app. 320 miles; From Denver is app. 370 miles to the Ranch.

Driving
From Norwood to Eagles Nest is app. 16 miles. From Norwood proceed southeast on Hwy 145. You will see a major cementery on the right, go past it to first road on the right which is 44zs Road or identified also as Lone Cone Road. Turn right onto this road and proceed for app. 10 miles to the end of pavement. At the pavement end continue straight ahead app. 3 miles on a good quality gravel road to an Y intersection. Bare left at the intersection and proceed for 1/2 mile to entrance to Eagles Nest Ranch which is on the right. This entrance is well marked. Once you turn into the drive, proceed another 1/2 mile to the Lodge Complex! Once you are out of your vehicle, the FUN begins!

Traveling from the NE and Midwest United States - Best routing is I-70.
There are two options - 1st (shortest & most scenic) - Exit I-70 @ Limon, Co. and proceed to Colorado Springs on Hwy 24; continue on Hwy 24 through Woodland Park to intersect with Hwy 285; proceed South on Hwy 285 and turn right (west) on Hwy 50. Proceed on Hwy 50 over Monarch Pass; through Gunnison to Montrose, Co. From Montrose follow directions below.

I-70 (Option 2)
Proceed on I-70 to Denver; continue on I-70 to Vail; Glenwood Springs; Rifle; to Clifton, Co. Exit I-70 @ Clifton onto Hwy 141 (south); proceed on Hwy 141 to Hwy 50 (south) to Delta, Co. From Delta continue on Hwy 50 to Montrose, Co. (From Montrose follow directions below to Norwood.)
Montrose to Norwood, Co.
Proceed South on Hwy 550 (Townsend Ave.) 26 miles to Ridgeway, Co. (Note: Colorado Division of Wildlife Office; Walmart Super Center; City Market, gas and package store are on Hwy 550 S, prior to leaving Montrose. Gas & package store prices are cheaper here. Any last minute shopping should be done prior to leaving Montrose!)
At traffic light in Ridgeway turn right on Hwy 62 and proceed app. 25 miles until Hwy 62 intercepts Hwy 145. Continue on Hwy 145 app. 17 miles toward Norwood. After climbing up "Norwood Hill" out of San Miguel Canyon, go approximately 1 mile and turn left onto Lone Cone Road (also 44ZS road). Go 10 miles to end of pavement then 3 miles to Y intersection, bear left and Eagles Nest Ranch gate is 1/2 mile on right.

(Note: Points of Interest - The film crew for the John Wayne movie “True Grit” were on location in Ridgeway. There is a Café in town named the “True Grit” Café. Also app. 8 miles out of Ridgeway on the left (south) is the “Double RL Ranch”, this belongs to the designer Ralph Lauren. The Double RL Ranch is along Hwy 62 for miles as you climb up to “Dallas Divide”. (elevation 8,970’) Very scenic area with Mt. Sneffels & “Sneffels Range” in the background.

Driving from SE & Southern U.S.
Take I-40 to Albuquerque, N.M.; exit North on I-25; proceed app. 16 miles to Bernalillo; exit North on Hwy 550; proceed on 550 to Bloomfield; turn left on Hwy 64,
go 13 miles to Farmington, N.M.; take Hwy 170 out of Farmington to La Plata, N.M. (Note: when you enter Colorado Hwy 170 changes to Hwy 140.)
Proceed North on Hwy 140 to intercept Hwy 160;
turn left (West) and proceed on Hwy 160 to Mancos, Co.;
turn right on Hwy 184 in Mancos and continue to intercept Hwy 145.
Turn right (North) on Hwy 145 into Delores, Co. - look for “Riverside” Convenience Store on left; turn left in front of store (this is the Delores/Norwood Road).
*NOTE: The Delores/Norwood Road is Gravel - But is well maintained and can be travelled in almost any type of vehicle (except during snow storm or very inclement weather). We ask ALL coming to Eagles Nest to call us at 970 729 0749 prior to leaving Delores because cell phone signal is not good past this point. Plus, we would like to know you are enroute and estimate time of arrival (ETA). If you have not arrived at ETA within one hour WE WILL COME LOOKING FOR YOU!
Proceed on Delores/Norwood Road app. 13 miles and pavement ends;
continue straight on main gravel road app. 14 miles (sign shows Ground Hog Reservoir to right 5 miles) at this sign & intersection bear left (follow sign to Buckhorn Lodge);
continue app. 5 miles to intersection (there will be a Delores Cty Road Shop on right);
turn right and continue app. 1 &6/10 miles to Buckhorn Lodge;
continue straight ahead from Buckhorn for app. 12 miles.
Eagles Nest Ranch gate will be on your left.
Turn left into gate, 1/2 mile down drive to Lodge!

Driving from SW & West U.S.
Proceed to Cortez, Co.; in Cortez go East on Hwy 160 (signs to Durango) for app. 2 miles; turn left on Hwy 145 and proceed app. 11 miles to Delores, Co. In Delores look for “Riverside” Convenience Store on your left, turn left in front of store - Follow directions given in paragraph above to Eagles’ Nest Ranch.
